Banana Bay – Description

Situated on the east side of Koh Racha Noi, this dive site is named Banana Bay because it has the shape of a banana. The bay extends for more than a kilometer from north to south. When you look at Banana Bay from the sea it offers a postcard-like scenery with tropical green landscape, white sandy beach and turquoise waters. Usually sheltered from current & waves along with the relatively shallow depths, Banana Bay is perfect for beginner divers and our sunset dives with MV Giamani. The dives here always shallow in the sandy area close to the shore, where a lot of healthy hard coral bommies can be found, as well as some interesting critters hiding on the sand. We then proceed along the southern corner, which is characterized by some impressive rock formations that can drop down over 30 meters of depth. Lots of common reef fish like puffer and porcupine fish, boxfish, fusiliers, bannerfish and scorpion fish are always around here. In addition, Cuttlefish, octopus, moray eels and sometimes even the beautiful eagle rays can show up in Banana Bay. During the right season even the super camouflaged frogfish and ghost pipefish can be found hidden on the hard corals.
